Checklist: Protests and demonstrations

Time and again, we see protests and demonstrations for democracy, human rights and freedom being suppressed or crushed in many countries around the world. Technical devices are increasingly being used in the process. The range of threats at demonstrations is wide. It ranges from the simple confiscation of smartphones to radio cell searches that can automatically record all participants in a demonstration.

• You know your most important contacts and logins by heart
• Your smartphones are encrypted
• You can switch off your devices quickly
• You have deactivated USB debugging
• You have sealed your device
• You have noted the unique numbers of your device
• You do not unlock your smartphone on demand
• Deactivate positioning if you don't need it
• You use a burner phone
• You have not activated your mobile data connection continuously
• Refrain from taking photos and videos at demonstrations
• You don't take your cell phone to the demo
• You don't use apps like "SnoopSnitch"
• You use anonymous SIM cards
• Deactivate your sim card when traveling with a group
• You use secure messengers
• Activate two-step verification in your messengers
• You use disappearing messages
• You use different pseudonyms and email addresses
• You encrypt your emails or do without them
