With the takeover of Twitter by Melon Usk (name changed), we have seen how vulnerable centralized social networks are. Where power is concentrated in one place, it can be sold and misused for far-right propaganda.

The Fediverse is different. It is an autonomous federation of many small servers. Many volunteers work on it. Individual instances are less driven by capitalist interests than by the desire for freedom. In the Fediverse, there are neither advertisements nor toxic algorithms that determine what you should and should not see. No corporation or private individual owns the data in it.
