You don't have to unlock your device if you want to take photos or videos. Keep it locked. This minimizes the risk of access after theft or confiscation.

More information

In most cases, you can do without unlocking your device with a password, swipe or biometrics if you simply want to take photos or videos. Most Android devices start the camera when you press the power button twice quickly. On iPhones, you can activate the display and simply use the camera icon.

This procedure allows you to take videos and pictures in critical situations. Your device then remains locked. This makes it more difficult to access the data in the event of theft or confiscation.

This behavior therefore increases your protection somewhat. However, keep in mind that only activated encryption and a disabled device are effective against police mobile forensic investigations.
